1955 Trivia

Well, we are back. I am going to continue posting this blog. This blog is meant to keep our family and friends up to date on what is happening to us in Garnett, KS and what we are doing to get ready for our retirement.

Mom is doing much better and she will probably be released to go home on Thursday. YEAH!

We had family here over the 4th of July. There were 12 family members that came from western Kansas to do some visiting and boating on the lake. The little and big ones had a blast shooting off fireworks.

We may be great grandparents again soon. Our granddaughter, Crystal, has been having contractions off and on since Friday afternoon. She went to the hospital and was kept overnight and sent home on Saturday morning. Saturday, Mac and I went shopping for baby gifts. We are going out to Plains, Ks for a baby shower for her on the 18th. Can't wait to see her.

I have been working on a few projects to get things ready to sell or put in the RV. I have decided that I am going to try to accomplish at least one project a day (or week). LOL

I was reading one of my favorite forums today and I came across some trivia from the year that I was born..I was surprised by what I had read so decided to pass it on to all of you. Hopefully you will understand my feelings.

1955 Trivia:

Lynette 2 jpeg

Lynette Gayle Milligan (McHenry)

April 29, 1955

'There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend, it costs  nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a campground.

1955 Camper

'I'll  tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $10.00.

1955 Grocery Ad

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $1, 000.00 will only buy a used one.

1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible

'If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm
going to quit. 20 cents a pack is ridiculous.

1955 Cigarette Ad

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging 7 cents just to mail a letter.

1955 Postal workers

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody  will be able to hire outside help at the store.

'When I first started driving, who would have
thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any
more. Ever  since they let Clark Gable get by with  saying *censored word* in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new  movie has either **** or *censored word* in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks  it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the  century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts  preparing for it down in Texas .

'Did you see where some baseball player just
signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't  surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the  President.

1955 Baseball Card2

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.

1955 Appliances

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays.
I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are
going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they  can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to
open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.

1955 Volkswagen
'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day
when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government..

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice
weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

1955 McDonalds

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $15.00  a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a hair
cut, forget it.'

Know any friends or family who would get a kick out of these, pass this on!

That's all for today!

Big Hugs!

Thanks so much for the blog again. I sure missed it. What fun going down memory lane, and to think we're saying the same thing now, wonder what the future holds.
