Christmas Eve & Christmas in Yuma

We arrived in Yuma about 2:30 on Thursday. We got all set up and I called Phyllis to let her know that we had arrived. We were supposed to go over to their lot for Happy Hour.

We went over and met several new people and visited for awhile. It was so great to finally meet Bob & Phyllis in person! They are great!!

The weather started getting cool so everyone started heading back to their own places. The four of us decided to run over to Parrishes for dinner and a drink. The food is really good there. After dinner, Bob & Phyllis took us over to 55th St for the “' ‘twas the Night Before Christmas” Christmas lights. They were amazing!

these are just a few of the photos that I took…it’s a great light display. When people buy lots or houses on the street it is a requirement that they agree to decorate for the holiday.

On Friday, Christmas Eve, we were invited over to Mike & Betty’s for snacks and games. They have a nice place here with a pool in the backyard. We learned a new card game called Chase the Ace. What a fast moving game….Mac nor I won…go figure.

On Saturday, Christmas Day, we were to go over to Buzz’ house to join the group for a Prime Rib dinner and more games. The dinner was wonderful but the friends and conversation was wonderful!

and then there was Phyllis showing off her wings….lol (shoulder pads)

Thanks so much Bob & Phyllis for inviting us to join you and all your friends for this first holiday away from home.

This morning we were up and out the door by 9:15am to go with Bob & Phyllis and some of the gang to the Moose Lodge for Sunday Funday…with BM’s(Bloody Mary’s) and breakfast. The food and drinks were good, but the company and conversation were priceless!!

After we left the Moose, Mac & I drove around in the foothills and looked at lots that were for sale. We didn’t see any signs for rental lots left. We found a few that we really liked. I think this is somewhere that we could buy a lot and make it our home base for some of our winters.

We have been really busy since we have arrived in Yuma and look forward to more adventures with Bob & Phyllis and the other new friends that we have met since we have been here.

Kevin & Arlene and Donnie & Karen will be here next week so business will pick up even more….and then lots more of our friends will be arriving in Yuma in January…woohoo…we have really missed them.

Tucson Visiting & Exploring

On Monday, Dec 20th we left Midland, TX on our way to Tucson to see Mac’s aunt Vernis. We had a very uneventful trip. We stayed at the KOA at Las Cruces on Monday night.

Tuesday, We got all set up at the Justin’s Diamond J RV Park. It was a pretty nice park but we loved the Passport America price of just $16.00 a night for a pull thru site.

We went over and had dinner with Aunt Vernis and some Boy & Girl Scouts came in to sing Christmas Carols for all of us. It was great.

Vernis is doing exceptionally well for being 92 years young.

Mac and Vernis

On Wednesday we were up and wanted to do some exploring in the Tucson area. We drove around to see the town and I figured out that I am not a big fan of Tucson. We had talked about going to the Saguaro National Park, so off we went to find the East Park with the 9 mile driving loop. We stopped at the Visitor Center and went inside to look at the displays. I found a National Park Passport book and decided to buy one. I got my first stamp there…

The Park was very interesting. The natural desert landscape is something that neither one of us has seen much of.

We had a great afternoon and then we went to dinner at El Merendero for Mexican food for our anniversary. It was really good.

After dinner, we went back over to Aunt Vernis’ to visit for a little while before we went back to the RV for the night.

Thursday we will finish our last leg of our trip to the foothills of Yuma where we will spend the next few months.

Stay tuned….

Trip from Las Cruces, NM to Tucson, AZ

We were up early and on the road about 9:00 this morning on our way to Tucson, AZ for a couple of nights. We wanted to try to spend some time with Mac’s aunt Vernis. She is Mac’s dad’s sister and she is 92 years young.

Our trip today was pretty easy with only 272 miles.

The scenery was very breathtaking….here are some photos of what we saw out of our windshield….

of course we had to pass through the Border Checkpoint …lol

These are just a few photos of the awesome countryside that we passed by and drove over today.

We arrived at Justin’s Diamond J RV Park about 3:00 and got all set up. Mac called his aunt Vernis to let her know that we were here and would be over shortly to see her.

We arrived at her apartment. The Senior Complex that she lives in is very nice. She had let them know that we would be there and were going to join her for dinner. We went over to the dining room about 5:30  and had dinner and  we had Boy & Girl Scouts sing Christmas Carols.

After the carols were over we went back to Vernis’ apartment to visit for awhile. We left about 9:45 came back to the RV.

We will go back to see her again tomorrow. She is wanting us to have dinner with her again.

We may try to drive through the Saguaro National Park sometime tomorrow and Mac would like to go to the Airplane Graveyard, so we will see what we can accomplish before dinner time.

Wednesday, Mac and I will celebrate our 26th Anniversary….it is so hard to believe that 26 years have passed by so quickly….and God willing we will be able to celebrate many more…

Stay tuned for more adventures here in Tucson.

Travel Day to Las Cruces, NM

We were up early and had things packed away and on the road by 9:30am. We wanted to make it to the KOA on the west side of Las Cruces for the night.

The trip was un-eventful but we sure saw some very desolate countryside…

DSC_0048

Lots of oilfield rigs and stuff….

DSC_0042

until we saw the mountains in the distance…

DSC_0068

At one point we were starting to get pretty low on fuel so we pulled off of I-10at a Chevron station to get some diesel…OMG…it was $3.59 a gallon. Mac didn’t fill up, but got enough until we could find another place. It was amazing that just a few miles down the road it was only $3.17.

Kind of neat Rest Areas…

DSC_0127

and Van Horn, TX had their underpass done really neat…

DSC_0057

As we got close to El Paso, we saw a Border Check Point in the East lane that had traffic backed up…glad we didn’t have to go through one of those today.

DSC_0118

I am still amazed at how much poverty there is in El Paso. I can’t imagine how people can live in some of the housing that we saw today…

I almost missed the sign as we entered New Mexico…we were trying to eat a snack and I had put my camera down…lol

We finally arrived at the KOA about 4:30, got checked in and all set up. This is just on the other side of the RV Park…Beautiful…

DSC_0159

We didn’t unhook from the truck since we will be heading out again in the morning to go to Tucson for a couple of days to try to see Mac’s aunt and cousins.

Stay tuned for our trip to Tucson…

Knee Surgery and time in Amarillo

The month of December has been going by very quickly…..

Chris & I spent a little time shopping for some Christmas decorations for our little tree. I got it decorated before I went to have my surgery.

I had knee surgery on December 2nd in Amarillo. I had a torn Meniscus and quite a bit of fraying. When the surgeon got inside he saw that it was a lot worse than he originally thought so there was a little more repair work required. I came out of recovery and was back at the RV by about 12:30 in the recliner with my leg up with 3 ice bags on it…

Mike & Leslie Kennedy have been here in Amarillo spending time with us. They decided to stay put and leave the day after my surgery. It was so nice to spend time with our new friends!! Hopefully we will see them again real soon!

DSC_0045

DSC_0046

and they were gone….

I spent several days with my leg up and iced….I then started Physical Therapy so I could get the strength back in my knee…My therapist must of hated me…lol…she almost killed me!

Chris & Dusty gave me a new Kindle 3G e-reader for Christmas and gave it to me early so I would be able to use it during my recovery….Thanks so much!! I Love it! They also gave Mac a D-Light and a Gift Card to Cracker Barrel…we will sure use those too…Thanks!!

We  had dinner one evening with Chris & Dusty, Terry & Carol, and Shane, Windy, & Brayden. We had a great time sharing a meal and enjoying lots of great conversation.

While we were In Amarillo during my recovery we got to spend a lot of time visiting with Chris & Dusty. It was really nice since we have never been able to spend much more than a long weekend with them. We have had several meals together…some dining in and a few dinners dining out. Plus, lots of time just sitting around visiting.

We decided that we would leave Amarillo on Thursday instead of Friday as the weatherman was predicting SNOW for Friday….we sure didn’t want to get stuck in that…lol

On our last day in Amarillo we met Chris for lunch at Cheddars. The food was good but the company was wonderful!. That evening we went over to their house and visited for awhile and then headed out to Cowboy Gelato for one of their famous Stuffed Hamburgers.

100_3455

100_3456

We followed that up with a trip to Stone Cold Creamery…yummy! Mac & Chris were acting up a bit while having Ice Cream…

100_3463

100_3459

After spending some more time at their home visiting we went back to the RV to get it ready for travel….It was hard saying our goodbye’s to the kids…seems like we haven’t been here as long as the calendar shows we have…sigh…

On Thursday morning we left the RV Oasis RV Park about 11:00am and headed south to Midland, TX. The drive was un-eventful and the weather was cloudy most of the trip.

We passed a lot of cotton fields and Cotton Gins. There were a lot of bales sitting out in fields and some were being picked as we went by…

DSC_0053

DSC_0073

We pulled in to the Midland RV Park about 4:30pm and got all set up. We will be staying here through the weekend so that we can visit a good friend, Ronn Darnell, for the weekend. He is working in Midland right now so it is great that we will be able to catch up with him for a few days.

He has taken us around and showed us the town. Thursday night we went to Rosa’s Cafe and had Mexican food. We decided on Friday to eat lunch out…We went to the …

DSC_0087

and it was really good!! Of course we all ate too much!

Ronn had to run back to NM on Friday evening and didn’t return until Saturday night. Him and Mac have been playing Cribbage…they haven’t played together for years.

100_3468

Sunday we made a trip to Best Buy….wow…there are way too many people out shopping! We didn’t stay long. Afterwards, we went to Logan’s Roadhouse for dinner. The food was terrible, but the company and conversation was wonderful!

We are slowly making our way to Yuma, AZ for our winter….

On Monday, Dec.20th, we will move on to Las Cruces, NM for an overnight stay. Mac is going to try to catch up with Ronn’s uncle Harlan and visit for a little while.

Stay tuned!!
